GEEK PICK: Nokia Sleep

Stay on target

Even though you spend all of your time living and waddling inside of it, it’s tough to get a sense of what’s truly going on within your own meat slab of a body. That’s why doctors earn so much money to give you more informed opinions on why you should walk more. Gut feeling are one thing, but to arrive at real facts about your own health you need hard scientific data.

Fortunately, we’re living in a golden era of tech products that track various kinds of biometric health data. And a great way to get intel on your body without doing very much work at all is monitoring your sleep. According to our sister site PCMag, the Nokia Sleep ($100) is one of the best smart sleeping devices out there.

The Nokia Sleep is a bundle of tech wrapped in inflatable fabric that you slot under your mattress like a layer. Plug it into a wall and connect it to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network and you won’t have to interact with the device itself again unless you want to take it with you to sync to another bed, which you can because it’s pretty portable. From there, the Nokia Sleep just rests passively, as do you, to complete the symbiotic process of sleep data analysis.

After a night of sleep with the Nokia Sleep, you’re then going to want to open up the Nokia Health Mate App on your iOS or Android device. Here you can see useful data like how long it took you to fall asleep, how long you slept and how much time was spent in what phases, and your heart rate and snoring (very important indicators of sleep health). You even get a nice comprehensive sleep score out of 100. The IFTTT functionality also lets you easily and automatically upload this sleep data into your own larger personal biometric tracking databases of choice as well as interact with other smart home tech.
